Apple has officially launched “Apple Intelligence” with the release of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, marking a significant leap in AI integration within its ecosystem. Unlike the minor updates often seen in point-one releases, this update introduces powerful generative AI features aimed at enhancing productivity, creativity, and ease of use across Apple devices.

Key Features

  1. Writing Tools: Apple Intelligence brings proofreading, rewriting, and text summarization capabilities to various apps. Users can quickly edit content and gain clearer, concise versions of long texts, helping streamline workflows.
  2. Live Audio Transcriptions: Users can now convert live audio from phone calls and recordings into text directly within the Notes app, with additional tools to generate summaries of these transcriptions, offering a new way to document and review important conversations.
  3. Enhanced Photo and Video Organization: Apple Intelligence has revamped the Photos app, adding the ability to sort and organize photos based on memorable events. Users can also create personalized “Memories” to relive special moments.
  4. Siri Overhaul: Users can now type requests and queries to Siri, in addition to voice commands. Siri’s UI has been refreshed with a glowing border indicator, and the assistant now understands requests even when stuttered or interrupted. Future updates are expected to further expand Siri’s contextual understanding.

Device Availability

Currently, Apple Intelligence is available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the iPhone 16 lineup, as well as on M-series iPads, Macs, and the A17 Pro-powered iPad mini. For now, access is limited to those using US English, with broader support for additional languages expected by April 2025.

  • Hearing Support: iOS 18.1 allows users to conduct hearing tests and even use AirPods Pro as over-the-counter hearing aids.
